Studied in the United States by the Pew Research Center (PRC) during the first week of December 2010, resulted in the 41% of Americans use the Internet as the primary means of access to national and international news, about this steadily as the most popular medium: the TV, which still has 66% of users who prefer , a number that is in dramatic decline, considering 82% of that enjoyed in 2002 and 74% in 2007 , according to reports from 4 January of the PRC.
Internet addresses so second place with an upward trend that seriously threatens the wider supremacy has always favored the TV, and finally defeating the print media, who currently lie 10 points adrift of the Internet in this ranking, and radio has lagged behind other media for several years and currently has a modest 16% margin of preference.
The impact of the Internet among different segments of the population in this study was different in each case, however, in all segments shows a clear upward trend. The segment that said using the Internet as their main source of news, is definitely the youth between 18 and 29 years who show a strong preference level of 65%, almost double than in 2007.
On the other hand, the study shows that TV news is still the most used by people with lower educational attainment. In fact, 75% of those who only have schooling, most states use the TV as a news source, compared to 63% of people with incomplete higher education and 51% of those with a tertiary degree.
The Pew Research Center is an American organization based in Washington DC, dedicated to conducting market surveys and research on areas, attitudes and trends of the population of the United States and the world. For this study, the PRC held a telephone survey among a universe of 1,500 people from all segments, between 2 and 5 December, contrasting its results with those obtained in previous years.
